Schneider National Joins Forces with Cook County, State Employment Groups to Bring 300 Jobs to Area
Job seekers encouraged to explore professional driving careers
at upcoming recruitment event
GREEN BAY, Wis. — August 8, 2008 — On Wed., Aug. 13, Schneider National (a leading provider of transportation, intermodal and logistics services), the Cook County President’s Office of Employment Training, Illinois workNet and Triton College will host a job recruitment fair at Triton College, 2000 Fifth Avenue, River Grove, Ill. The event, which runs from 2 to 6 p.m., is designed to provide information to those interested in learning more about Schneider’s 300 professional truck driving jobs available in the Chicago metropolitan area.
“We at Schneider National are proud to be expanding our driver network in the Chicagoland area,” said Rob Reich, vice president of driver recruitment for Schneider National. “We’re looking to fill a wide variety of driving positions, and we welcome experienced drivers who already hold their commercial drivers’ licenses as well as those who are brand new to the profession.”
Schneider National recruiters will be on-site at the event to help attendees explore the truck driving profession. Inside, short informational sessions will be offered throughout the event so those interested can learn about Schneider National, its training and orientation programs, and the specific job opportunities available. Attendees will even be able to complete applications while at the recruitment fair. The event will be held in the gymnasium on the Triton College campus.
Unlike most truckload carriers, Schneider offers both a company-provided training program for inexperienced drivers looking to enter the industry and a broad range of employment options for experienced drivers. Tuition assistance options for Schneider’s Driver Training Academy (truck driving school) are available.
According to Reich, drivers can expect to earn an average of $42,000–$65,000 per year, depending on experience and other factors. The newly hired drivers in the Chicago area may work as solo drivers or teams. Drivers are needed across Schneider’s business segments: bulk (tanker), intermodal (truck/rail), dedicated and over-the-road (national fleet).
“We are pleased to partner with Schneider National and Triton College to help residents of Cook County obtain gainful employment with an industry leader,” said Karen Crawford, executive director of the Cook County President’s Office of Employment Training. “It represents the best of what can be achieved when businesses, educational institutions and government collaborate. As agents of progress, all of us hope that people who need a job or want a better job will come out and explore the exciting career opportunities that Schneider National offers.”
