Schneider National Expands Associate Healthcare Resourceswith Best Doctors
New Benefit Helps Associates Get Free Expert Advice When Faced with Uncertainty about Their Medical Care
Boston – June 25, 2009 – Best Doctors, Inc., an expert medical consultation service that empowers employees to take an active role in their medical decisions, today announced that Schneider National, Inc., the nation’s largest truckload carrier, has made the Best Doctors’ benefit available to its associates and their dependents. Through Best Doctors, Schneider National associates and their dependents now have access to advanced medical expertise when they are uncertain about their diagnosis or treatment.
The federal government’s National Ambulatory Care Medical Survey found that more than 150 million doctor office visits featured less than 10 minutes of face-to-face contact. As physicians are afforded less time with their patients, as many as one in five U.S. patients are treated based on an incorrect diagnosis.
The Best Doctors benefit will allow approximately 13,000 eligible Schneider National associates and dependents to have their medical cases evaluated by world-renowned expert physicians who will conduct a thorough analysis of a member’s case based on all their medical records, full history and tests. After the review, the Schneider associate receives a comprehensive, easy-to-understand report summarizing the expert’s findings that can be used with their treating physician to take the right next steps.

A Best Doctors analysis of clinical cases warranting review by their experts uncovered alarming medical oversight including:
• Wrong treatments occurred 61 percent of the time
• Insufficient work-ups reported in 31 percent of cases
• Treatment efficacy shortfalls in 25 percent of cases
• Misinterpretation of pathology or diagnostic tests occurred in 12 percent of cases
