Schneider National’s Mexico Express Intermodal Service Provides Unprecedented Access to Mexico’s Prime Industrial Center
Innovative Rail Solution Brings Greater Capacity, Expedited Customs Clearance and Enhanced Freight Security to Cross-Border Shipments

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Nov. 13, 2006 - Schneider National, Inc., a premier provider of transportation, logistics and intermodal services, introduced a new Intermodal solution — Mexico Express — in June to deliver greater capacity and faster service between the Eastern Seaboard of the United States and Mexico. Through a contract with Kansas City Southern, Kansas City Southern de México and Norfolk Southern, Schneider National customers gain priority access to up to 120 loads per day north and south of the border.

Since inception, Mexico Express has attracted both new and existing customers and has achieved consistent growth in volume week over week. Schneider is the first truckload carrier to offer such cross-border services; this is the second unique Intermodal offering from the company in six months.

To date, Schneider has successfully turned the Mexico Express train into its fastest intermodal lane for freight delivery across the border to Mexico City; San Luis Potosí; Guadalajara, Jalisco; the Bajio region (including Guanajuato and Querétaro); and Monterrey, Nuevo León — Mexico’s prime industrial center.

With the Mexico Express line customers benefit from transit times that both rival over-the-road transportation and beat traditional intermodal delivery between Mexico and the United States. Because freight is pre-cleared at the ramp prior to departure, customers avoid border-crossing delays in Laredo and can move freight into Mexico more quickly.

“Mexico Express answers this market’s need for additional capacity and more streamlined cross-border shipments,” said Bill Matheson, president of Intermodal at Schneider National. “Now our customers have more options to maximize their supply chain, as well as the reliability of a five-day ramp schedule and greater freight security.”

Schneider Intermodal’s Mexico Express includes $100,000 USD insurance in Mexico and $250,000 USD in the United States. Additional insurance programs are also available, minimizing the need for security escorts in Mexico. Leveraging an extensive network of ramps, the Mexico line provides a five-day ramp schedule north and south of the border. In addition customers have increased access and flexibility from an expanded dray radius in Mexico.

Matheson added, “Mexico Express addresses the various pain points our customers experience moving freight across the border. Along with the many benefits, we’re also delivering a solution that reduces their expense levels through the elimination of non-value activities and reduced idle time, ultimately translating into improved service levels and cost savings.”
