Schneider National Foundation Reaches Charitable Milestone of $1 Million Plus

GREEN BAY, Wis. — January 2, 2008 — Single working mother of three and soon-to-be Habitat for Humanity homeowner Jennifer Nissen knows firsthand what a difference a helping hand can make. So do Ryan and Angie Cropper, whose 2-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son are hippotherapy patients of Exceptional Equestrians, which provides educational and therapeutic riding instruction for people with special needs of all ages.

“Every day I am amazed by how generous people and businesses can be,” says Nissen. “Companies and people I don’t even know have come together to build my family a new home. It’s simply unbelievable. What a gift.”

Nissen and the Croppers are just three of the thousands of individuals who will benefit from more than $1 million in cash, equipment, in-kind transportation services and other contributions dispersed internationally by the Schneider National Foundation in 2007. The Foundation, the charitable arm of Schneider National, Inc. (the nation’s largest truckload provider) announced today that its 2007 donations increased 13 percent and provided assistance to more than 100 organizations in need across the globe.

“Having two adopted children, both with disabilities, is difficult by itself, and it seems there is never enough money to really get them the help they need,” says Ryan Cropper. “Exceptional Equestrians provides therapy at prices we can pay because of the donations of many companies. Schneider’s support not only helped purchase a horse, it provided therapy for hundreds of other kids, making their lives so much better. It’s changed our lives, and our children’s lives, significantly.”

“This is our opportunity to give back and reconfirm our commitment to both the community we call home and the many countries where our employees live and work,” says LuEllen Oskey, administrator of the Schneider National Foundation. “It’s very gratifying to support these groups and the important work they do in meeting community needs and improving our collective quality of life.”

Nationally, the Foundation is on trend with its peers: Donations by U.S. corporate foundations increased 1.5 percent in 2006, climbing to $12.72 billion (Source: Giving USA). Major Schneider Foundation contributions in 2007 encompassed the areas of arts and culture, children, education and health and human services. Organizations that benefited from the Foundation’s work include the NEW Curative Rehabilitation’s Alzheimer’s Adult Day Care program in Green Bay, Wis., The Miracle League of Green Bay’s Resch Field, and capital campaigns for Unity Hospice, the Syble Hopp Therapy Pool and the Salvation Army’s Ray Kroc Center. In addition, the Foundation continues to support the good work of local community groups like the Boys & Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Junior Achievement and the United Way.

Contributions made through the Foundation in 2007 include donations from the company store, as well as charitable loads and cargo/freight donations. In addition, Schneider’s volunteer corps, the Community Connection Team, gave their time and talents to more than 15 local community events and donated thousands of volunteer hours to area organizations.
