Environmental
Sustainability isn’t a new fad for us. We’ve been leading the charge for more than 30 years.
Schneider National has been conducting business in an environmentally responsible manner long before it was en vogue to be a green business. Throughout our Enterprise, Schneider National is aggressively pursuing a sustainable future.
We’re doing the following to reduce our carbon footprint:
Today, our approach to truckload, intermodal and logistcs operations make us the most energy-efficient fleet and transportation provider in the industry. We also work with the most energy-efficient railroads and third-party carriers.
As a charter member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay Transport Partnership, (a voluntary collaboration between the EPA and the freight industry to increase energy efficiency while striving to reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution), Schneider is one of only two SMARTWAY certified transportation providers to be selected each year for the SmartWay Award of Excellence (2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009).
SmartWay has also recognized Schneider’s Enterprise-wide commitment to the environment. All three of Schneider’s business sectors (Truckload, Intermodal and Logistics) are SmartWay Transport members.
"Based on your leadership and the commitment of your management and staff, Schneider National, Inc. was awarded a 2009 SmartWay Excellence Award in October, and I want you to know how much your efforts are appreciated."
Schneider has long held a leadership role in increasing the industry’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The company is active at the state, national and international level through participation in key environmental sustainability-focused initiatives, associations and task forces. Many of our efforts are focused on three major initiatives we believe have the potential to create the greatest lasting impact to our industry and the global environment:
- EPA SmartWay Transport Partnership
- American Trucking Associations' (ATA) Sustainability Task Force
- Carbon Disclosure Project
A snapshot of the results of our environmental sustainability efforts demonstrates our commitment:
