Operating Policies
Everyone talks about energy efficiency, Schneider backs it up with policies, procedures and the best drivers in the industry.
In April 2008, Schneider took energy efficiency to a new level by reducing its fleet speed to 60 mph. This improvement in fuel efficiency now saves an additional 3.75 million gallons of diesel fuel each year.
Rewarding Great, Green Behavior
We reward drivers who understand the important environmental impact of on-the-road behavior, fuel conservation and emissions reductions.
Schneider began focusing on energy efficiency in 1978 when we pioneered driver incentives for idle reduction and fuel management. The program evolved in 1985 when Schneider included performance metrics and driver compensation incentives based on their ability to more effectively manage fuel consumption.
Schneider’s state-of-the-art engine electronics teach drivers to limit speed and reduce non-essential idling and out-of-route miles. These metrics are integrated into the driver’s performance and compensation incentives.
Training for Conservation
No other transportation provider trains its drivers like Schneider. That’s why the safest, most professional and most energy-efficient drivers on the road comprise the Schneider driver force.
Using state-of-the-art simulators that are designed to recognize good driving habits while promoting driving tips for improvement in areas to include fuel management, Schneider drivers learn the critical techniques needed to operate in a safe and fuel-efficient manner.
Even our training techniques save fuel.
The time spent in simulation offsets behind-the-wheel training resulting in an average fuel savings of 335,000 gallons per year.
We help every one of our drivers increase their energy efficient behavior.
In Schneider’s port dray operations, we are working with independent contractors to reduce idle time during normal operations. In both Chicago and Los Angeles, Schneider operates on off-shift traffic hours to avoid congestion and excessive idling.
