Air Quality
When it comes to talking about reducing greenhouse gasses, the last thing you need is more hot air.
Talk is cheap. Especially when we have spent more than 30 years leading the industry in its efforts to consistently and aggressively spec tractors for minimum emissions output. Schneider’s investment in sustainable, low-emission engines has reduced particulate and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by more than 80 percent since 1988.
Eco-friendly, in-cab heaters (to reduce cold climate idling) have been standard on Schneider trucks since 2003, making us the first major truckload carrier to specify this feature. This results in an annual emissions reduction of 3,332 tons of NOx by reducing our idle time to less than half the industry standard.
Schneider remains committed to sustainable business practices, leading the industry in testing engine-off cooling technologies (to reduce cold climate idling) that operates with zero emissions.
In 2004, Schneider became a charter member and the first truckload and intermodal carrier to join the SmartWay Transport Partnership. Our SmartWay certified emission scores set the industry standard:
- CO2 commitment tons saved: #1 of 441 transportation providers
- CO2 tons saved: #2 of 441 transportation providers
- CO2 efficiency: #3 of 441 transportation providers
Schneider has sustained its commitment to reduce emissions:
